Juan Matías Varela, better known as Dozer, is an Argentinian rapper who began his music career at 17 years-old, improvising for train passengers in his native Buenos Aires. Born in 1992, Varela developed a passion for rap music from an early age and was propelled towards the stage in order to supplement the income of his mother and household. He honed his skills on trains and in the streets, taking every opportunity to flex and polish his increasingly nimbleflow. In 2016 he made his first appearance at Red Bull Batalla de Gallos, the biggest Spanish-language freestyling tournament, held at Tecnópolis, where he positioned himself as one of the top-4 rappers in Argentina. After showcasing his skills in the national spotlight, Dozer began gaining renown for his unique lyrical style; not defined by the sharpness of his insults, but for not needing any to take down his opponents.
The following year he qualified once more for Red Bull Batalla de Gallos, where he cut through regional battles that led him back to the national stage, this time at famed Luna Park stadium. Again he landed in the tournament's top-4 ranking, but the following year he returned to Luna Park, facing off against some of Argentina's fiercestMCs and emerging the champion of Red Bull Batalla de Gallos 2018 the the roaring approval of over 7000 fans.
Dozer's extensive catalogue has accrued thousands of plays across YouTube and other streaming platforms, also fostering an affectionate relationship with his over 250k followers on social media platforms like Instagram (@dozer_oficial). The beloved rapper inspires his followers with his art, personal history and unwavering work ethic, starting from the bottom and fighting for his place at the top.
In 2019, Dozer performed at Argentina's Lollapalooza Festival as part of a Batalla de Gallos exhibition, later chosen to represent UNICEF during a major campaign combating bullying, sexting and grooming. Dozer has worked with UNICEF for 4 years and even participated in youth special “Un Sol Para Los Chicos,” which was televised on Argentina's Channel 13.
Throughout the pandemic Dozer nourished his YouTube channel with a string of singles and streams which have kept him active and fresh in the hearts of fans. In 2020 he dropped his acclaimed Vida UrbanaEP, and he is once again in the studio working on upcoming project Eben-Ezer, which promises Dozer's triumphant return to the stage.
